6th edition of UNESCO Africa Engineering Week

The 6th edition of UNESCO Africa Engineering Week will take place in Zambia and across Africa from 15 to 21 September 2019. This initiative, which initially started in 2014, aims to educate youth and the general public about engineering through outreach activities such as educational workshops, public awareness events, mentoring activities that show how engineers are key players in the solutions to important global challenges.

Although some progress has been recorded during this past period, Africa is still lacking engineers. The aim of this week is to increase the visibility of engineering and its role in sustainable development, to encourage students to study engineering by supplementing STEM curricula with practical engineering applications, and to incite more African countries to participate so as to ensure the sustainability of these efforts.

UNESCO in collaboration with Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ), the Federation of African Engineering Organizations (FAEO) and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) is organizing this year’s UNESCO Africa Engineering Week in Livingstone, Zambia from 15 to 21 September 2019. Three Head of States (Zambia, Egypt and Rwanda) are expected at the opening session with His Excellency the President of Zambia expected to officially open the Engineering Week.
