Media and Information Literacy and Games in the Digital World- Part I Ministerial Roundtable

Media and Information Literacy (MIL) cover new competencies needed in a digitalized world. It takes into account games in different forms, as well as the potential opportunities and challenges posed by the AI. The General Conference side-event will focus on the role of MIL and games in improving citizens’ knowledge, skills and attitude to respond to the digital era and shape more peaceful and sustainable societies. The event will consider: 1) games in MIL and 2) MIL related and game-based learning in the context of Sustainable Development Goals stimulating critical thinking, problem-solving, and civic engagement in social development.

Organized jointly by UNESCO, UNESCO MGIEP, the Delegation of Finland to UNESCO, and the Delegation of India to UNESCO, the event will take place on 14 November 2019 at UNESCO Headquarters (Room XII, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.).
Two resources are proposed to be launched: 1) the Belgrade Recommendations on Draft Global Standards for MIL Curricula Guidelines, and 2) a global literature review, and the industry guidelines for gaming-based learning.
