"Why teach about the Holocaust and Genocides?" Videoconference with BREDA

To mark the International Day of Commemoration in Remembrance of Victims of the Holocaust (27 January), the Section of Education for Peace and Human Rights is organizing a discussion with UNESCO's Regional Bureau for Education in Africa (BREDA) on the theme "Why Teach about the Holocaust and Genocides?".
The session will consist of a presentation by French historian Mr Georges BENSOUSSAN, Editor-in-Chief of La Revue d'Histoire de la Shoah and director of publications of the Shoah Memorial. Mr. Bensoussan will focus on the pedagogical challenges of dealing with the history of the Holocaust and its universal relevance. BREDA will bring together representatives of the civil societies and ministries of education of Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Senegal. The Minister of Education of Senegal, Mr Kalidou DIALLO, will participate in the discussion. Exchanges will be moderated by Ms Ann-Therese N'DONG JATTA, Director of BREDA, and Mr Mark RICHMOND, Director of the Division of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development.
