Thirteenth Congress of the International Society of Ethnobiology
The International Society of Ethnobiology is committed to understanding the complex relationships between human societies and their environments and recognizes that traditional knowledge-holders are vital to our success. Ethnobiologists acknowledge that indigenous peoples, traditional societies, and local communities are critical to the conservation of biocultural diversity.
The 13th Congress aims to develop knowledge at the interface of cultural diversity and biodiversity. In the spirit of the code of ethics developed by the International Society of Ethnobiology, this conference is more than a conventional scientific meeting, since it relies on the active participation of indigenous peoples and local communities' representatives, who have been invited so that they can bear witness to the difficulties they face in this rapidly changing world. The conference will also address the general public, civil society and the education world.
The MAB Programme, in cooperation with the MAB National Committee of France, is organizing a workshop on Biosphere Reserves, as their dialogue for sustainable development, with an excursion to the Biosphere Reserve of the Rhone Delta.
The objective of this event is to address major environmental issues today through local actors, and to advocate a new position for researcher - one closer to societal needs, built on a genuine partnership with the holders of ecological knowledge.
