Holocaust Education in a Global Context
@Państwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau w Oświęcimiu
UNESCO is convening an international experts meeting with educators and scholars to analyze how and why the genocide of the Jewish people has become a global reference for mass violence, as well as the challenges this entails in education. It will focus on Holocaust Education in regions where the genocide did not take place and explore its influence on remembrance processes.
Taking into consideration the "globalization" of Holocaust Education, the discussion will outline the role education can play in tackling difficult issues of the past in various national contexts and will explore ways to manage divisive and competitive memories through education.
The meeting will bring together about 30 experts from Austria, Canada, China, Côte d'Ivoire, Croatia, France, Germany, Israel, Rwanda, Spain, South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States, and other countries to discuss these issues and to identify future directions in this field.
The meeting is organized in partnership with the Topography of Terror Foundation (Berlin).
