Celebration of the World Press Freedom Day in Madagascar

As part of World Press Freedom Day, the UNESCO office in Dar es-Salaam is organizing a conference in Madagascar on the transformative power of the media, with a particular focus on the participation of women and youth. World Press Freedom Day is one of the events selected by Madagascar’s United Nations Country Team to be celebrated jointly by all its agencies. The celebration will take place in Toliary city and will be organized in partnership with the Ministry of Communication. The Human Rights adviser, representing the UN Resident Coordinator, and the Minister of Communication will kick off the celebration with an opening speech that will be followed by a four-person panel discussion. The event will focus on issues related to the World Press Freedom Day theme “Freedom of the media has the power to transform societies” and adapted to the Malagasy context. Following the panel discussion, a question-and-answer session will allow participants to make their voices heard. Particular attention will be given to the participation of youth and women.
