First Latin American Congress on Education Assessment and Measurement (COLMEE)

The event will aim at disseminating the results of studies and good practices in education assessment and measurement in Latin America.

The congress hopes to attract professionals from a number of fields who wish to enhance their knowledge of education assessment and measurement, and to hold in-depth discussions on experiences and findings from the different countries of the region.
Researchers from across Latin America can submit their work at between 30 April and 30 June, 2012. Submissions will be evaluated by the COLMEE Scientific Committee, and those selected will be presented at the event’s working sessions.

Atilio Pizarro, Section Chief for Planning, Management, Monitoring, and Evaluation at OREALC/UNESCO Santiago, who will be a member of the Scientific Committee for the selection of works to be presented at the congress, explained that “events like this promote the sharing and dissemination of knowledge on education assessment, which in turn contributes to improving information available for the design and implementation of public polices favouring quality education in the region”.

In the words of MIDE International Manager and COLMEE 2012 Coordinator Andrés Molina, “this first congress arises from a firm belief that against a backdrop of growing relevance for education assessment and measurement, with a view toward the improvement of education quality and equity around the world, opportunities for learning and discussion of the techniques and scopes of education assessment experiences in our region are vital”.

Apart from UNESCO, backers of the congress include the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), Fundación Chile, the Colombian Institute for Educational Evaluation (ICFES), the Instituto Nacional para la Evaluación de la Educación de México (INEE), and the Instituto de Evaluación Educativa at the Universidad Católica del Uruguay (IEE).

The training workshops will be led by a select group of experts, with the aim of providing a solid grounding in the tools, techniques, and methods used in the different fields of education assessment and measuring, allowing participants to optimize and enhance their knowledge, and providing them with a concrete learning experience.
