United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development

This side-event will present the recommendations from the International Conference on Biodiversity Conservation and Education for Sustainable Development - Learning to Conserve Biodiversity in a Rapidly Developing World, organized by the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) India for the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India (MHRD-GOI), during the Biodiversity COP 11 in Hyderabad (India), on 13-14 October 2012.
The Conference will have 4 Thematic Workshops where the participants will deliberate on:
1. Biodiversity in Formal Education
2. Biodiversity in Non Formal Education
3. Education for Biodiversity Conservation in Rural Communities for Sustainable Livelihoods
4. Education for Biodiversity Conservation in Urban Areas and Industries

The recommendations from these workshops will be presented at this side-event. The session will be chaired by Prof Charles Hopkins, UNESCO Chair for Reorienting Teacher Education on Sustainability. The recommendations from the Conference will be presented by Kartikeya Sarabhai, Director CEE to a high level panel of 4 ministers who will comment on the outcomes of the Conference and propose the way forward.
