Celebrating 20th anniversary of the Memory of the World in Berlin

In cooperation with the German Federal Foreign Office, the German Commission for UNESCO is organizing a ceremony to celebrate the inscription of the documents relating to the "Construction and Fall of the Berlin Wall and the Two-Plus-Four-Treaty of 1990" on the UNESCO Memory of the World register. The event is also part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Programme.
Mrs Irina Bokova, Director General of UNESCO and Mr Walter Hirch, the Chairman of the German Commission for UNESCO, will hand out certificates to the representatives of the nine institutions and archives with items relating to the inscription. Among participants will be the German Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher, the former East German Foreign Minister Markus Meckel and the former chief negotiator for the Foreign Office, State Secretary Dieter Kastrup who will also discuss the origins and meaning of the Two Plus Four Treaty.
