High Panel on Peace and Dialogue among Cultures
To strengthen UNESCO’s activities pertaining to dialogue among cultures, the pursuit of peace, and the promotion of cultural diversity in a globalized world, the Director-General of UNESCO, Ms Irina Bokova, has established a High Panel to foster reflection on the new dimensions of peace in the Twenty-first Century. Gathering decision-makers, intellectuals and artists from all regions of the world, the sessions of High Panel on Peace and Dialogue among Cultures aim to chart new avenues for peace through open and lively exchanges.
Chaired by the Director-General, the next meeting of the High Panel will be held on 19 November at UNESCO Headquarters. It will be attended by such international figures as HRH Prince Turki Al Faisal Al Saud, Nassir Abdulaziz Nasser, Akhtar Badshah, Homi K. Bhabha, Vicente Fox, Attiya Inayatullah, Nasser David Khalili, Amin Maalouf, Luc Montagnier, Rabbi Arthur Schneier, Salil Shetty and Vladimir Yakunin.
Following the morning private session of the High Panel, a UNESCO Forum will be held from 3 to 5 pm in Conference Room II on the following theme Building Peace: UNESCO’s Role in the Next decade with special emphasis on engaging youth in building sustainable peace and societies.
The UNESCO Forum, open to UNESCO Member States and the UNESCO Community at large, will benefit from the presence of the participants in the High Panel meeting on Peace and Dialogue among Cultures.
