The UNESCO ICT Competency Framework for Teachers (ICT-CFT) is intended to inform education policy makers, teacher educators, providers of professional learning and working teachers of the role of ICT in educational reform, and to assist Member States in developing national ICT competency standards for teachers. Following up to the launch of the updated version of the ICT-CFT in 2011, many Member States of UNESCO have requested UNESCO for technical assistance to operationalize the ICT-CFT in their countries.
In view of the gap between the ICT-CFT and the knowledge needed in developing the national ICT competency standards for teachers, UNESCO plans to develop a Guidebook for Developing National ICT Competency Standards for Teachers. To map out resources of key international organizations and to share knowledge from varied regions in this field, UNESCO is organizing an experts meeting on the development of the Guidebook at its headquarters on the 10th and 11st of December 2012.
The objectives of the experts meeting are to:
• Discuss the possible approaches to operationalize the UNESCO ICT Competency Framework at country level.
• Share knowledge among global experts and standards setting agencies about the development and holistic implementation of national ICT competencies standards for teachers.
• Formulate the framework of the Guidebook, including its target audiences and expected objectives, content structure and format, and supporting tools and resources needed.
• Identify appropriate resources to assist the development of the Guidebook and plan the follow-up activities.
