Celebration of Africa Day at UNESCO

Opening of the Africa week 2010.UNESCO Headquarters
Each year, with the support of the Organization, Africa’s Ambassadors to France and to UNESCO organise, Africa Day at UNESCO on 25 May. The date marks the birth of the Organisation for African Unity, the OAU, and celebrates Africa in its richness and diversity, reinforces the solidarity among its peoples and promotes regional and international cooperation.
The theme for 2011 is: "Africa: Culture and Development of peace ".
Throughout the week (23 to 27 May), exhibitions, dance performances, films and round tables will be organized. Africa Day will be opened on
25 May, by the Director-General of UNESCO in the presence of Ambassadors, permanent Delegates and many other eminent persons.
