UNESCO Almaty Office organizes the International conference Alma-Ata+20 on 8-9 October 2012 in Almaty to mark the 20th anniversary of the Alma-Ata Declaration on Promoting Independent and Pluralistic Media in Asia.
The purpose of the conference will be the dissemination of best practices of media pluralism to enable press freedom and freedom of expression in Asia. Alma-Ata+20 will bring together media and communication specialists from the Asia-Pacific region (especially Central Asia) to assess the progress of countries in development of different forms of media (public, private and community media) since the adoption of the Alma-Ata Declaration 20 years ago.
The conference will also facilitate dialogue between policy makers and media representatives about the creation of favourable legal conditions for public service broadcasting and community media.
