UNESCO, the African Union and the Government of Angola jointly organized the Panafrican Forum entitled” “Sources and Resources for a Culture of Peace”, from 26 to 28 March 2013, in Luanda (Angola). One of the key conclusions of the Forum of Luanda was the launch of a multi-stakeholders’ partnership for the implementation of this Action Plan through a series of coordinated actions at national, sub-regional and regional level.

In this context the Houphouët-Boigny Foundation for Peace Research proposed to UNESCO to create a Network of Foundations and Research Institutions whose overall aim is to unite research organizations working on the promotion of a culture of peace in Africa.

In this regard a group of African and non-African organizations and institutions, including UNESCO Category II Centres working in the fields of youth, gender and peace, as well as UNESCO Chairs and other research institutions will come together to create this network, which would be its first core founding members.

This event is organized at an appropriate time of the celebration of the International Day of Peace at the African Union, on 21 September 2013.
