UNESCO opens for the "European Night of Museums" 2011

The Director General of UNESCO, Ms. Irina Bokova, renews the Organization's patronage of the "European Night of Museums" for the 2011 edition, which will take place on Saturday, 14 May 2011 and include the participation of thousands of museums both in France and across Europe. Aimed at the development and visibility of museums and cultural institutions, this international event ties in with UNESCO's endeavors for the advancement and protection of culture on a global scale.
For the third consecutive year, UNESCO will also participate in the Night of Museums by opening its Headquarters on Saturday,14 May. From 8 pm to midnight, the general public is invited to visit the Organization's Headquarters, where guided tours of a selection of artworks from the Organization's richly diverse Art Collection will be given. On this occasion, visitors will have the opportunity to discover Noguchi's Japanese garden, as well as works by Calder, Chillida, Erró, Giacometti, Miró or Picasso, among several others.
