Underwater Cultural Heritage Diving

The FSM Government will organise a four-week field school in Chuuk. The course will provide 15 participants with training in the Underwater Cultural Heritage (UCH) management for sustainable development through lectures and diving exercises at the Chuuk Lagoon where an important number of WWII-related UCH are protected under the State law.
The field school will be held in the framework of an action plan for the implementation of the UCH Convention in FSM as a party to the UCH Convention (2001). The objectives of this activity are to strengthen the capacity of FSM for safeguarding UCH and to develop Chuuk as a centre for UCH safeguarding in Micronesia. The school will be held with technical assistance of the University of Guam that is an associate member of UNITWIN for maritime archaeology.
