Ministers of Culture in the Pacific islands will get together in Honiara, Solomon Islands, on the occasion of the 11th Festival of Pacific Arts. The Festival is the biggest cultural event held every four years in the Pacific. The Ministerial Meeting will discuss cultural policy and strategy for sustainable development in the Pacific region. The Meeting also foresees a launch of consultation process of the 2005 UNESCO Cultural Diversity Convention in the Pacific.

As part of the Festival's programme, PIMA/ICOMOS Workshop on Youth and Herltage is planned for 5-6 July 2012. Youth from the Pacific delegates will discuss topics ranging from Pacific heritage to climate change adaptation. The Workshop will also serve as celebration of the 40th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention.

This will be followed by a Public Symposium on Cultural Rights (Honiara, 9-11 July 2012). The Symposium will address a wide range of issues around cultural rights including their linkages to heritage, trade, and gender.
