Film Screening and Roundtable Event: ‘Equus: Story of the Horse- First Riders’

On Friday 26 April the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan to UNESCO, in collaboration with the UNESCO Silk Roads Project, will hold a screening of the documentary film, ‘Equus: Story of the Horse – First Riders’ at 6:30 p.m. in Room II at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

The film, created by an international team led by Canadian anthropologist-turned-producer Dr. Niobe Thompson, explores the origins of the unique partnership between humans and horses.

The documentary follows a group of nomadic people on their grueling winter migration over the snow-covered alpine passes of the Altai Mountains, revealing firsthand how horsepower makes possible this ancient way of life.

Following the screening, the films creators will participate in a roundtable discussion on the impact of horsemanship on the history of world civilizations.
