Re-Shaping cultural policies in Ethiopia

UNESCO and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ethiopia will co-organize a public consultation meeting to discuss the future of Ethiopia’s cultural policy as well as steps to implement its recently adopted Film Policy.
UNESCO and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ethiopia will co-organize a public consultation meeting to discuss the future of Ethiopia’s cultural policy as well as steps to implement its recently adopted Film Policy.

Government representatives, members of the Investment Commission, as well as numerous artists and cultural professionals will participate in the discussions in Addis Ababa.

This event is organized within the framework of the project “Reshaping cultural policies for the promotion of fundamental freedoms and the diversity of cultural expressions” (2018-2021), funded by the Government of Sweden. Through this project, UNESCO supports 16 partner countries to enhance transparent and participatory policymaking for the creative sectors.The project complements the commitments taken under the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions which promotes fundamental freedoms including gender equality and artistic freedom.

This meeting coincides with World Press Freedom Day celebrations, hosted by the Government of Ethiopia in cooperation with UNESCO and the African Union (Addis Ababa, 1-3 May 2019).
