Consultation meeting on UNESCO’s action in favour of Small Island Developing States (SIDS)

In the context of the recently launched International Year of SIDS 2014 and the upcoming Third International Conference on SIDS, also referred to as Barbados Programme of Action+20 (BPOA+20), which will take place in Apia (Samoa) from 1 to 4 September 2014, a consultation meeting will be held with the Permanent Delegations to UNESCO on 1 April 2014.
This meeting, chaired by the Director General, will focus on identifying the emerging and enduring priorities for the sustainable development of SIDS that should be reflected in the outcomes of the Samoa Conference. Subsequently, an action plan to guide UNESCO’s response will be developed, in line with the Resolution adopted by the 37th session of the General Conference on, ‘Reinforcing UNESCO’s strategy on SIDS’ (part V (paragraph 1.e)).
