Round Table – “Matriarchal Societies Around the World” in the framework of the Celebrations of the IWD 2011
The Round Table will focus on the promotion of women’s empowerment and gender equality in some of the matriarchal contexts around the world as photographed by HRH Princess Beatriz von Hohenlohe.
A matriarchy is a society in which women, especially mothers, have the central roles of political leadership and moral authority, and where women's power is equal or superior to men's. Through her travels, especially in Morocco, the artist portrays the lives of women and men living in matriarchal communities. The discussion will also illustrate women’s struggle for independence and equal opportunities in Europe through the observations of Alice Schwarzer.
With the participation of HRH Princess Beatriz von Hohenlohe, Marisa Berenson, Actress, Her Excellency Mrs Martina Nibbeling-Wrießnig, Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of Germany to UNESCO and His Excellency Mr. Vinay Sheel Oberoi, Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of India to UNESCO.
