The significance of Marine Science and Technology and the importance of Capacity Builing and Marine Technologies transfer to Small Island Developing States
UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission and UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) organize a joint experts group meeting on the significance of Marine Science and Technology for SIDS and the importance of Capacity Building and Marine Technologies Transfer to SIDS.
The purpose of this joint IOC/UNESCO-UN-OHRLLS meeting is to:
• Assess the current status of the marine science and technology situation in the SIDS regions;
• Identify frameworks for technology transfer of relevant and appropriate marine scientific technologies to SIDS.
• Present the results of the marine science capacity development survey carried out by IOC (as a result of a voluntary commitment taken at the UN Conference on sustainable development Rio+20);
• Make a number of concrete recommendations in capacity development that could contribute to the preparatory process towards the 2014 Third International Conference on SIDS.
