MENASOL 2010: 2nd North Africa and Middle East Solar Conference

With the objective to increase UNESCO’s visibility and effectiveness in the area of Renewable Energy Utilization for Sustainable Development, UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Technology for the Arab States, in collaboration with the World Bank (WB) and New Solar Today Company (United Kingdom), is organizing MENASOL 2010, the 2nd North Africa and Middle East Solar Conference. It is geared towards identifying North-South and South-South Cooperation Opportunities in executing Mega Projects within the Mediterranean Solar Project (MSP) and DESERTEC, which are sought to bring a high level of energy security in Europe as well as the MENA region.
Day 1: areas of discussion focus on the UN vision for solar energy in the MENA region, the solar roadmap across the region, the emerging regulatory framework for solar in MENA, securing international investment for MENA solar projects (i.e., World Bank, IFC and ADB), investment case study on the Mediterranean Solar Plan followed by panel discussions on investment strategies and identifying and winning private investment, and lastly the biggest solar initiatives in the region.
