Anna Karenina

Directed by Sergey Solovyov, a Russian director, scriptwriter, actor and producer, Anna Karenina is inspired by the famous eponymous novel of Leo Nikolaievitch Tolstoy. This screening is organized on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of the writer.

Anna Karenina explores themes of 19th century Russian society: it tells the tragic love story of Anna Karenina, a young married woman from Saint Petersburg’s upper class, and the count Vronski, a brilliant but frivolous officer. In spite of the strict moral principles of Russian high society, the two lovers share an adulterous passion, but not without many sacrifices.

(Russia – 2009 – 140 min, original version in Russian, subtitled in English and in French)
