XIII edition of the Italian Culture Week

This is a first time participation for UNESCO to this yearly cultural event organized by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage. For nine days, monuments, museums, archaeological sites, archives, and libraries and over 3,000 events (exhibitions, conferences, special openings, workshops, guided tours and concerts) will be open free to the public.

On 9 April, Palazzo Zorzi, UNESCO’s Venetian location, will open its doors to the public from 3pm. to 7pm. The building is a particular example of the Early Renaissance architecture, attributed to the architect Mauro Codussi (c.1440-1504). The courtyard of Palazzo Zorzi is an exceptional piece of structural design with a delicate ground-floor loggia, slender columns with Corinthian capitals, surmounted by elegant biforate windows. Paola Modesti, expert in Venetian Renaissance architecture, will hold at 5.30pm. a conference titled “Behind the snow-white marbles. Ca’ Zorzi at San Severo”.

Guided visits will be organized to the most significant restoration works carried out in the framework of the Joint UNESCO – International Private Committees Programme for the Safeguarding of Venice, which - along the years- has restored more than 1,000 works (buildings, statues, books etc) returning its former beauty to the city.
