Community member listening to a radio programme

UNESCO Windhoek Office organizes a working session to revive the Namibian Community Radio Network (NCRN). This event will bring together all community radios in Namibia that operate under a community radio license, as well as other relevant stakeholders.
Given the relevant role played by community radios in promoting human development, good governance, social justice, empowerment of women and human rights, it is important to promote stronger partnership, collaboration and harmonization among them, to improve on the quality of radio programs, to enhance their skills and capacities and increase the social impact of their programs. These were some of the assertions stated on the Johannesburg Declaration “Improving content, strengthening networks and empowering women”, adopted during the workshop organised in South Africa by AMARC aimed at initiating the process of strengthening National African Community Radio Networks. This project will extend the results of that workshop to other community radios in Namibia in an effort to increase social impact of community radio in achieving its social, economic and cultural development objectives.
