Presentation of Research Projects by UNESCO-L'ORÉAL International Fellows for Women in Science

© DR

Every year since 2000, as part of the L'ORÉAL-UNESCO For Women in Science partnership, 15 UNESCO-L'ORÉAL International Fellowships have been awarded to young women researchers in the life sciences, at the doctoral or post-doctoral level, whose promising projects have been accepted by a prestigious institution outside their home country.
Each Fellowship, worth up to $40,000, may cover up to two years. The Fellowships help the beneficiaries - who have already distinguished themselves by their talent and commitment - to pursue promising research at what may be a critical point in their scientific careers. The candidates’ research projects are submitted to the Fellowship Selection Committee by UNESCO National Commissions.
The projets that have been selected often relate to the needs of local populations or represent original fields of research, such as: the characterization of a protein with healing properties produced by catfish; or the study by IRM of the interactions within the brain in healthy and depressed patients.
The UNESCO-L'ORÉAL Fellowship Selection Committee makes the final choice of three Fellowship beneficiaries from each of these five regions: Africa; Arab States; Asia/Pacific; Latin America/Caribbean; and North America/Europe.
