XXI International Book Fair Cuba '2012

The XXI International Book Fair Cuba '2012 will be held in Havana from February 9th to the 19th, and will continue throughout the whole country until March 4th, with the motto "Reading is growing". It will honour two Cuban authors: Zoila Lapique Becali, National Award of Social Sciences 2002, and Ambrosio Fornet Frutos, National Award of Literature 2009 and National Award for Edition 2000. The Fair is also dedicated to the cultures of the Greater Caribbean. The International Book Fair is one of the most important cultural events held in Cuba and attracts millions of Cuban and foreign visitors every year.
The UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean will have an extensive participation in this event, as part of the program of the United Nations System in Cuba:

February 10
10:00 a.m. Launching of “Educación de la Sexualidad y Prevención de las ITS y el VIH/SIDA desde los Enfoques de Género, de Derechos y Sociocultural” ( Education of Sexuality and Prevention of STD and HIV-AIDS from the Gender, Rights and Socio-Cultural Approaches) (UNESCO-UNFPA-MINED).

10:00-11:30 a.m.: Panel Promotion of Cultural Diversity in the Caribbean: An Outlook of the Projects Sponsored by UNESCO and UNICEF in the region (UNESCO-UNICEF- Cuban Committee of the Slave Route – Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase)
10: 00 a.m. Presentation of the series of booklets “Conozcamos el Mar” (Let’s Get to Know the Sea) and “Protege a tu Familia de… las manifestaciones del Cambio Climático” (Protect Your Family From… Climate Changes”) (UNESCO- National Aquarium – Cuban Society of Geology).
11:00 a.m. Presentation of the book “Construyendo el E-G y la Sociedad del Conocimiento” Memorias de la III Conferencia Internacional de Derecho e Informática de La Habana 2011 (Building the E-G and the Society of Knowledge, Proceedings of the III International Conference on Law and Informatics of Havana 20011 of the) (UNESCO- Cuban Society of Law and Informatics).

February 13
11:00 a.m. Presentation of Oralidad, a publication for the safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage of Latin America and the Caribbean, its 17th issue devoted to the International Year for People of African Descent.

February 18
12:00 a.m. Panel “Strengthening of capacities for the protection and safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage in the Caribbean”.
2:00 p.m. Presentation of the books Estudio comparado de la formación de profesores para la secundaria básica. El caso de la formación de profesores de Matemática, Varios (Comparative Studies on Training of Intermediate Level Teachers. The Case of Math Professors, several authors); Educación para el desarrollo sostenible, prevención de desastres y protección de la salud mental en escuelas y comunidades (Education for Sustainable Development, Disaster Prevention and Protection of Mental Health in Schools and Communities). (MINED-UNESCO).
Presentation of the following educational materials: Multimedia: Educación para el desarrollo sostenible, prevención de desastres y protección de la salud mental en escuelas y comunidades; (Multimedia: Education for Sustainable Development, Disaster Prevention and Protection of Mental Health in Schools and Communities) and five graphic informational materials against natural disasters (MINED-UNESCO-UNICEF).

The System of the United Nations in Cuba will have a booth in the Fair with exhibitions in which the UNESCO Havana Office will be also exhibiting information materials from all the Sectors and a permanent representative to provide explanations and information as requested by visitors.
