Under the patronage of the Petra Development and Tourism Regional Authority, UNESCO Office in Amman is presenting the publication “Risk Management at Heritage Sites: the Case Study of the Petra World Heritage Site publication"

The publication is the final results of the Petra Risk Mapping project and related in partnership with the Raymond Lemaire International Centre for Conservation at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and in cooperation with the Department of Antiquities of Jordan

This presentation marks the end of a 15 month project (February 2011 to June 2012) which has resulted in the publication titled “Risk Management at Heritage Sites: the Case Study of the Petra World Heritage Site”. The main objective of the project was to identify and assess risks in the Petra World Heritage Site, from developing a risk management methodology to delineating appropriate site boundaries and buffer zone, and identify the most appropriate tools for mitigating these risks in order to protect the value of the site. These findings are enclosed in “Risk Management at Heritage Sites: the Case Study of the Petra World Heritage Site”. UNESCO hopes that the risk mapping methodology presented by this publication will become a model for the management of risks at heritage sites around the world.
