Putting learning first: the role of the Learning Metrics Task Force

As the Education for All and Millennium Development ( MDG) goals end in 2015, and the UN Secretary-General embarks on a global education campaign (“Education First”), there is a window of opportunity for the education community to ensure that learning is a prominent part of the development agenda; In response to this need, UNESCO, through its Institute for Statistics (UIS) and The Brookings Institution, Center for Universal Education (CUE) have joined efforts to support a Learning Metrics Task Force to investigate the feasibility of common learning goals to inform the post-2015 development discourse and improve learning. It promotes dialogue among diverse experts to develop recommendations on learning standards, metrics, and implementation practices.
Albert Motivans, the head of education statistics at the UIS, UNESCO Institute for Statistics, will be presenting the work of the LMTF on behalf of the Task Force Secretariat. Olav Seim, the Director of the EFA Global Partnership Team, will be also present to answer questions and share his perspective.
