Sixth Session of the Conference of Parties to the International Convention against Doping in Sport

The Conference of Parties (COP) to the International Convention against Doping in Sport is a statutory conference held every two years. All UNESCO Member States are invited to participate in the sixth session taking place at UNESCO Headquarters on 25-26 September 2017.

One of the major objectives of the Conference of Parties is to address challenges on States Parties’ compliance with the provisions of the Convention.

The agenda of the Sixth Session of COP (COP6) will also include, for the very first time, discussions around public authorities’ responses to the non-compliance letter addressed by UNESCO’s Director-General as follow-up to monitoring the implementation of the Convention in line with COP5 outcomes.

The promotion of the Convention and of its impact on national anti-doping public policy will be key to strengthening its visibility and maximizing ownership by signatories.

Moreover, COP 6 will look into matters related to sport integrity, in connection with the need to reinforce anti-doping capacity, and the mainstreaming of values-based education.

Finally, COP 6 will determine the challenges regarding resources of the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport, in its tenth year of implementation.

Key partners include the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), invited in an advisory capacity, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the Council of Europe (CoE), INTERPOL, the World Customs Organization and various intergovernmental and international sports organizations.
