Learning to Live Together

Futures Literacy Laboratory: Complex Futures of Human Settlement 2050

Finland Futures Research Centre and Finland Futures Academy’s annual summer school will be organized in the form of Futures Literacy Laboratory (FLL), which is a participatory method developed as part of the UNESCO's Management of Social Transformations (MOST) Programme.

The FLL consists of three phases:

1) Tacit to Explicit – making assumptions about the future explicit
2) Reframing/Aha Moments
3) Nuances/New Questions

It will be led by Riel Miller, from the Research, Policy and Foresight Section at UNESCO. The theme is human settlement, which in this context refers to the built environment in which people live, e.g. cities, villages and campgrounds. To move through these phases, students will play a new experimental futuring game called Metaphor Molecule.

Presenters and Key Concepts:
Riel Miller – Futures Literacy
John Casti – Complexity
Markku Wilenius – Why Cities Need Foresight
Sari Puustinen – Safety and Complexity in City Systems
