Forest Whitaker has been invited by Helen Clark, the Administrator of UNDP, to speak at a side event of the United Nations General Assembly on the post-2015 development agenda in his capacity as UNESCO Special Envoy for Peace and Reconciliation.
The side event will include speeches from Ban Ki-moon, H.E Mr John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana and H.E Mr Shin Dong-ik, Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs of the Republic of Korea .
Mr Whitaker will speak about the work of UNESCO and his foundation - the Whitaker Peace and Developement Initiative - to empower young people from conflict- or violence-affected areas in Uganda, South Sudan or Mexico by providing them with trainings in peace education and mobile technology.
This presentation will be an opportunity to demonstrate how civil society can contribute to the implementation of the post-2015 global agenda.
