Discussion Panel on Education and Federalism in Brazil

The event is a discussion panel on federalist educational governance in Brazil to guarantee the right to education for all citizens.
The discussion panel on the theme “Education and federalism in Brazil” will be opened by UNESCO representative in Brazil, Vincent Defourny, and the Brazilian president of The House of Representatives, deputy Michel Temer. The discussion will be moderated by journalist Beto Almeida, and will have as speakers deputy Carlos Abicalil; the Minister of Education secretary deputy, Francisco das Chagas; the University of Sao Paulo's professor, Romualdo Portela; and Wagner Santana, from UNESCO Brazil. The debate will have national wide transmission by the House of Representatives Network.

The book in Portuguese “Educação e Federalismo no Brasil: combater as desigualdades, garantir a diversidade” [Education and Federalism in Brazil: fighting inequalities, assuring diversity] will be launched during the event. Its launching intends to stimulate a national discussion over the proposition of a new National Educational System, which will be the main subject of the National Educational Conference (CONFEA), taking place from March 28 to April 1st, 2010.

The debate will be broadcast by TV Câmara.
