Within the framework of the 2010 International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures, the Republic of Ecuador hosts the 17th Forum of Ministers of Culture and Officials in charge of Cultural Policies of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The central topic of the meeting is cultural integration of Latin America and the Caribbean in defence of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue for a sustainable development.

The Forum also deals with other issues of importance for the region, such as cultural mobilization in the face of natural challenges and cultural diversity and development.

Latin America and the Caribbean; the CARICOM Children’s Website Project; and Project SICSUR - MERCOSUR Cultural Information System.
New projects are also discussed and presented following strategic areas identified.

As part of the Forum, UNESCO organizes a joint meeting on cultural policies for diversity and development as a follow-up to Resolution 35 C/DR. 53, passed by the UNESCO 35th General-Conference held in October 2009.

A meeting of Youth for Latin American and Caribbean Unity takes place previous to the Forum, under the topic “Participation, Culture and Development.”
