2010 Charango Concert

On the occasion of the International Festival of Cultural Diversity.
For this performance, three artists hailing from Potosi will accompany soloist Eresto Cavour to guide you in the discovery of all of the facets of this instrument of Bolivian folklore.
The charango is a stringed musical instrument with five chords of two strings each, inspired by the Spanish vihuela (an ancestor of the classical guitar) and originating in the city of Potosi, Bolivia. The charango is played during planting and harvesting celebrations, its vigorous rhythm charging these events with a liveliness that reflects the daily life of the Andean peoples.
