Shanghai International Forum on Lifelong Learning at the Shanghai World Expo 2010

Making learning a reality throughout life for all is the theme of the Shanghai International Forum on Lifelong Learning

The Shanghai International Forum on Lifelong Learning will be held from 19-21 May 2010, during UNESCO Week at the Shanghai World Expo 2010. The Forum is being organised by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) on behalf of UNESCO, in cooperation with the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, the Chinese Society of Educational Development Strategy and the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO. 200 high-level specialists from more than thirty Member States – comprising 100 international and 100 Chinese experts – are expected to participate. The Forum will be attended by Ms Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, Mr Yuan Guiren, Minister of Education of China as well as senior representatives of the Shanghai Municipal Government, with Mr Roberto Carneiro from Portugal, Ms Hao Keming from China and Ms Rosa Maria Torres from Ecuador as the keynote speakers.


The overall aim of the Forum – which will centre on the theme “Making learning a reality throughout life for all: Progress, trends and systems of lifelong learning” – is twofold: to reinforce the momentum for lifelong learning created by CONFINTEA VI and the Belém Framework for Action, and to share Member States’ best practices for harnessing the lifelong learning discourse as a means of establishing learning systems and societies. The sub-themes include: the evolution of and perspectives on lifelong learning, the transformation of teaching/learning from the perspective of lifelong learning, promoting non-formal education and informal learning for youth and adults, financing lifelong learning and building learning societies.
