9th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage

School feeding programmes involve younger Isukha generations (Kenya) appreciating and practising the traditional foodways of their communities.
Composed of 24 States and elected by the General Assembly of the States Parties to the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Intergovernmental Committee meets once every year.
Chaired by H. E. Mr José Manuel Rodríguez Cuadros, Peru, the Committee will review periodic reports submitted by 27 States Parties on their implementation of the Convention and reports on the status of 8 elements inscribed on the Urgent Safeguarding List.
The Committee will also discuss a first draft of possible Operational Directives on safeguarding intangible cultural heritage and sustainable development at the national level, the result of an expert meeting held in Istanbul, Turkey, from 29 September to 1 October 2014, and will examine draft amendments to the Directives on periodic reporting. For the first time, the Committee will establish an Evaluation Body to evaluate, beginning with the 2015 cycle, nominations to the Urgent Safeguarding List and Representative List, proposals to the Register of Best Safeguarding Practices and requests for International Assistance. The Committee will also examine 8 nominations for inscription on the Urgent Safeguarding List and 45 on the Representative List, 4 proposals to the Register of Best Safeguarding Practices and 2 requests for financial assistance.
