The event is co-organized by UNESCO and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in partnership with the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF), the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Southern Observatory (ESO), and it is partly financed by the European Union. It will take place on 27 September 2013 in 3 different venues (Geneva, Bologna and Paris), which will be live-connected and linked by the same major theme: the infinitely large and the infinitely small and the intimate connections between particle physics and cosmology, in the new light shed by the discovery of the Higgs Boson and the Planck results.
The main objective of this event is to enhance researchers' public recognition notably through offering to the public the opportunity of discovering the "human face" of research via direct exchanges and discussions with renowned scientists, who will be on stage in Geneva, Paris and Bologna. The event will also bring together representatives of culture, art and philosophy, who will be invited to share with the public their ideas on the new image of the universe and its cultural impact.
