An international conference organized by the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) to support the newly-created AIMS institute in Senegal
This international conference will gather together Nobel prize-winning scientists and experts, ICTP and CIMPA (UNESCO category II centre) to support the AIMS-Senegal institute, which will welcome its first students in September 2011. The conference will have a great impact on the development of science in Africa.
The AIMS initiative was created by Mr Neil Turok, Director of the “Perimeter Institute” in Canada and winner in 2010 of the WISE (World Innovation Summit for Education) prize for his project “Next Einstein Initiative”.
AIMS was initially founded in South Africa, in 2003, as a pan-African center for post-graduate training and research, providing advanced, broadly applicable mathematical skills to talented students from all over Africa. It is hoped that this initiative will lead to the creation of other AIMS institutes in Africa.
