This side event of the Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development will include a roundtable discussion on the role and contribution of women scientists to sustainable development. Several leading women scientists will share information about their work, career development and how these factors contributes to the process of sustainable development.
This side event will include a roundtable discussion on the role and contribution of women scientists to sustainable development. Several leading women scientists will share information about their work, career development and how these factors contributes to the process of sustainable development. The participants will comprise a few UNESCO-L’Oreal Laureates, and fellows, representatives from key international and regional networks and groups actively contributing to women’s involvement in Science The event will encourage discussions on the role of STI to facilitate viable solutions for human wellbeing, social inclusion and environmental sustainability. It will also serve to inspire young women to choose scientific careers which contribute to sustainable development. Chaired by a journalist specialized in science and environmental issues, the meeting shall sensitize policy-makers and other stakeholders on initiatives that foster women’s contribution to sustainable development.

It will take place during a major five-day Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development which will be held just prior to the Rio+20 conference in Rio de Janeiro.
