Audio from Africa: Empowering Local Radio with ICTs

Click here for sound clips from female radio professionals from across Africa as they discuss their experiences working in community radio.

These professionals are participants in the UNESCO project "Empowering Local Radio with ICTs" builds the capacity of 32 local radios in 7 African countries.

Its overall goal is to improve the lives of the poor, especially women and girls, by raising local radio stations' quality programming. UNESCO helps local radios acquire ICT skills, achieve an increased range of local news coverage as well as gender equality and financial sustainability.

All audio files are copyright free and broadcasters are encouraged to use them in creating radio programmes to celebrate World Radio Day.

This project is possible thanks to the support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
