The Fourth Technical Workshop of the IOC Sub-Commission for the Western Pacific (WESTPAC) on Ocean Forecasting System will take place in Bogor, Indonesia, 5-6 March 2013 with the kind host of the Research and Development Agency for Marine and Fisheries Research, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of Indonesia. This workshop will continue to develop one Ocean Forecasting System with an initial focus on the South East Asian Waters and adjacent areas.
This Ocean forecasting system could generate crucial forecast information, such as ocean circulation, sea surface temperature, wave height, to serve the needs of a variety of human activities related to marine hazards mitigation, oil and gas exploration, fisheries, navigation, marine parks management and coastal recreational activities. This technical workshop was designed to come up with a road for developing the ocean forecasting system at its second phase (2013-2014), with focus to:
i. review the past progress and scientific findings of members regarding the OFS project in the first phase;
ii. detail the action plan of each country towards the development and implementation of this OFS project for its second phase;
iii. revise, update and finalize the Project Document and Roadmap of OFS Project;
iv. explore funding opportunities for the implementation of this project, including the possibility of the establishment of OFS Working Group under the Workshop of Managing Potential Conflict in the South China Sea.
