Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in South East Europe: Environmental and Socio-Economic challenges - The role of Biosphere Reserves

The Southeast European Network on Phytochemistry and Chemistry of Natural Products for Green and Sustainable Growth (SEE PhytoChemNet) was established by 9 countries from South-East Europe (Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Turkey) in the frame of the International Year of Chemistry (IYC) 2011 and with the support of the UNESCO Venice Office.

The members of the Southeast European Network on Phytochemistry and Chemistry of Natural Products for Green and Sustainable Growth (SEE-PhytoChemNet) will discuss on the high potential existing in SEE for better sustainable usage of the medicinal and aromatic plants (MAP’s) for economy growth and jobs creation. The role of Biosphere Reserves in the South East European region will be evaluated with local stakeholders and experts. Participation of NGOs, agencies and international institutions active in the region is also expected.
