UNESCO, in partnership with the United Nations University (UNU) and the University of Tokyo (IR3S), is organizing a conference on 19 September 2013 on science and sustainability.

The objectives of this conference are to discuss the issues, concept, approach and methodologies of sustainability science to re-frame it within the broad political agenda, and to explore ways to strengthen international collaboration for enhancing the science–policy–society interface.
The expected outputs from the conference include a supplement of the journal "Sustainability Science" and a report to the 36th Session of the General Conference of UNESCO which will be held between 5 and 20 November 2013. The conference will bring together representatives from these key institutes, UNESCO Member States, scholars and policy makers who will share and discuss the state of the art of sustainability science for its application in sustainable development policy and action.
