National Media Conference – Reviewing media development in Mongolia based on IPDC’s Media Development Indicators
The Mongolia National Media Conference is a multi-stakeholder forum to participatory review the draft Media Development Assessment of Mongolia which has been carried out by the GIC in collaboration with the Mongolian Journalists’ Association, Press Institute and Transparency Fund NGO, and using the Media Development Indicators (MDIs) developed and endorsed by the UNESCO’s International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC).
This event is organized by the Mongolian specialized NGO Globe International Center (GIC) and the UNESCO Beijing Office, in collaboration with media representatives, the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO, the Government, the office of the President as well as specialized national and international media organizations.
The Mongolia National Media Conference will provide an opportunity to discuss a stock of issues affecting media development and sustainability in Mongolia as well as media policy reform, through plenary and parallel meetings on topics related to freedom of expression, pluralism and diversity of the media, legal environment of broadcast and online media, the role of the professional associations, media self-regulation, media accountability, right to reply, and gender sensitivity while reporting.
The Conference is expected to gather more than hundred stakeholders across the media sector (public and private broadcasters as well as media associations), representatives from the government, the Parliament and the civil society, as well as national and international experts. It will elaborate and develop a set of recommendations on improvements which will be delivered to the Government and the legislators. The MDI assessment in Mongolia is supported by UNESCO, while the Conference is co-sponsored by UNESCO, the Asia Foundation, the US and the Canadian embassies in Mongolia.
