Executive Training in Government Information Leadership - Providing Access to Information, Building Knowledge Societies

UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in Asia and the Pacific (Bangkok), UNESCO/Yangon, and the Center for Electronic Governance at United Nations University International Institute for Software Technology are organizing a week of executive training on Foundations of Government Information Leadership in Yangon, Myanmar, from 4 to 8 November 2013. The training programme will focus on the enabling and facilitating role of ICT and EGOV in formulating and implementing government policies; increasing the effectiveness, efficiency and efficacy of government programs and operations; and producing concrete value to the public.
The training programme that will take place under the patronage of Myanmar Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Science and Technology, is a follow up of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and the WSIS + 10 Review process. The programme is built around the methodologies developed by UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Information for All Programme (IFAP) in its publication “National Information Society Policy: A template”. In line with IFAP Strategic Plan (2008-2013), and its mandate to assist Member States in the development and implementation of national information policies, the training is addressed to a group of up to twenty-five decision-makers and managers from government organizations in Myanmar and surrounding countries responsible for planning, managing and sustaining EGOV and IT initiatives in support of public policy objectives; current or aspiring chief information officers in such organizations; private sector CIOs who would like to learn about unique requirements and opportunities for public sector IT and EGOV. Emerging national and regional trends and needs identified during the training will be used as inputs to the ongoing reflections and preparations of the current WSIS+10 review process.
