Seminar on UNESCO’s World Map Point of Interest Project in Kenya
The UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa will carry out a seminar on World Map point of Interest project in Nairobi, Kenya. The event will provide an environment for the stakeholders to interact with the Ushahidi Platform from data entry and editing to populate the platform. Stakeholders will also interrogate the system which will help in capacity building and quality control. In addition, invited local leaders will be introduced to the system and shown how it can be exploited to enhance their decision and policy making thereby improving the livelihoods of the people of Mathare.
This being a pilot project, the idea is to create a sensitized network of Disaster Risk Reduction community in informal settlements by improving the local knowledge of disaster risk management. This project is conducted within the framework of the Intersectoral Platform meant to support Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation and focuses on the Disaster Risk Reduction community information needs under UNESCO’s thematic areas of Education, Science, Culture and Communication and Information.
