This edition of the Forum will focus on social policies for youth and social inclusion in Latin America. Convened within the framework of the UNESCO Management of Social Transformations (MOST) Programme, its main objective is to strengthen linkages between social science research and public policies, especially those addressing poverty eradication and social development.

Ministers and scholars will exchange on the state of the art of policies for social inclusion in Latin America, a subject which constitutes today a political priority for governments, and on best practices and new alternatives and modalities for cooperation in the region.

As a result, greater cooperation between the Ministers will be expected, as well as agreement on a common agenda for joint work between the main social science networks and the Ministries of Social Development, and more space for replication of best practices implemented in different countries.

In addition to the Forum, two other important activities will take place. The results of the UNESCO MOST Project Repensar América Latina (Rethinking Latin America) will be presented. And the UNESCO/Juan Bosch Prize for the Promotion of Social Science Research in Latin America and the Caribbean will be launched by the Government of the Dominican Republic, to be awarded to the best master and doctorate thesis in social sciences of the region.

The President of the Government of El Salvador, H.E. Mr Carlos Mauricio Funes Cartagena, will participate in the opening session, as well as Pilar Álvarez Laso, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences.

Organized by the Ministry of Work and Social Security of the Republic of El Salvador, in cooperation with UNESCO, the event will also gather representatives from several United Nations agencies such as the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the International Labour Organization (ILO); representatives from several social science networks, such as the Latin American School of Social Sciences (FLACSO) and the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO); officers from the Andean Community of Nations, Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), and the Social Institute of MERCOSUR; and several academic experts of the region.
