Inter-regional Conference for Collaboration on Memory Preservation and Accessibility

Taking place alongside the UNESCO Open Science Forum for Latin America and the Caribbean (CILAC), the Conference is part of the MoW Secretariat’s strategic support to memory institutions and other stakeholders seeking to implement the UNESCO Recommendation concerning the preservation of, and access to, documentary heritage including in digital form.
The Conference will aim to provide a platform to examine how memory institutions in different regions can collaborate in order to maximize efforts at preserving documentary heritage and enhancing its accessibility in the digital age. More specifically, the Conference will assist the MoW Programme Secretariat to:
1) More effectively support the establishment of national MoW committees as support mechanisms for national preservation efforts.
2) Assist in identifying and cataloguing documentary heritage at risk for possible preservation support, especially in areas of natural disaster, such as Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and SIDS.
3) Compare good practices in identifying documentary heritage for possible inscription at the national, regional and international levels. Enhance public education (awareness raising) as to the inter-regional and international significance of documentary heritage.
